When the Department of Biology was established within the College of Natural Sciences in 1968, the Botanical Teaching Collection was inherited from the Department of Science and the customary care maintained. The collection includes plants from many different ecotypes, secured for particular features, through personal gifts, remnants of research projects, new purchases and unique orphans left on the doorstep.
